Below is an explanation of what the values on your blood pressure monitor mean when you take a blood pressure measurement at home.

On the screen of an Omron blood pressure monitor, you will see the following values:

  • SYS: This stands for systolic blood pressure (the upper number). It is the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts.

  • DIA: This stands for diastolic blood pressure (the lower number). It is the pressure in the arteries when the heart is resting between beats.

  • PULSE: This shows your heart rate, the number of times your heart beats per minute.
